I wasn’t always an optimist, at least not in my early years, but as I became more confident through study, hard work and self-reflection, I can say, I’m a “glass half full” kind of gal and a pragmatic, proactive, and creative problem solver. So COVID-19, bring it on…really…no not really!!! Ok, so I we watched a webinar this week titled “Pivoting the Workplace during COVID-19” or something like that and one of the presenters quoted someone’s hashtag DWAP, which translates Don’t Waste a Pandemic. Essentially, they encouraged service providers to take the opportunity to do things differently, embrace rather than resist change, learn and adapt and surround yourself with positive forward-thinking people so you can get things done, while you have the chance. So that’s what I’m doing.

Over the past 5 – 6 weeks we have asked many of our mental health clients what they need from us to get through the pandemic. Staff have also offered lots of ideas, so we are now super busy modifying our way of working, accommodating the unique needs of individuals and changing our service model. While its hard work, it’s a great opportunity to throw out the old and bring in the new and evaluate your services and staff like never before and it suits me DWAP mentalhealthrecovery.
